“My love of photography is partnered by my enthusiasm for custom album design. I strive to create pieces which make clients rejoice in having a physical presentation piece, not just images tucked away on a disc! In the modern design world, I am a total renegade. I utilize no computer programs, templates, or typical technology in my design process. I am a purist and I consider my storybooks to be pieces of art, created by the technology of eyes, heart, and hands. I patronize only the best bookbinders and crafters: their work surpasses the highest standards and expectations of the industry. My books are not only visually appealing, but archival, functional, and of solid quality. Melissa Perella Storybooks contain real photographic prints, not images printed directly onto pages. Because of the nature of my books, I am able to include paper ephemera such as invitations, programs, printed poetry and quotations, to achieve the most unique heirloom pieces possible. Clients seeking a true conversation piece meant to be handed down to future generations need to look no further than my assortment of custom crafted books!”
IMPORTANT DISCLOSURE REGARDING DESIGN POLICY
“Due ot the highly custom and creative nature of my design process, it is necessary for me to exercise full creative control in photo selection and album design. As an artist, I am at my creative best when working in a solitary fashion with regards to design. As a business owner, I must maintain my workflow and numerous deadlines in the manner most effective for me. For these reasons, clients are not involved in art direction, photo selection, or page layouts – I create each book on my own from start to finish with my own vision. Because of this policy, clients receive quality, finished products in a very timely manner and I am able to maintain the creative freedoms which are the lifeblood of my processes. Although I constantly receive compliments from clients regarding their finished albums, as well as their sentiments of relief about not having to select photos/choose designs, I do understand that my policy may not be a comfortable fit for everyone. I appreciate ALL of my clients and strive to operate in the most honest and transparent manner possible, which is why I do directly state and describe my design process. 80 – 90% of my clients do commission albums. However, it is not necessary to do so in order to work with me as your photographer! Clients choosing all-inclusive options including albums may opt to remove the album if they are uncomfortable with my design policy. A minor deduction in cost will be made, according to my overhead in ordering album, adhesives, and general printing costs. Clients are always welcome to speak with me at length with any questions/ideas/feedback.”
